I just love adding personal touches to my holiday decorating. Each year, I try to craft at least one handmade item that I can display. Decorating my house house is one of my favorite things to do at Christmas (next to baking cookies, of course). I love to make my home feel warm, welcoming and festive. Chalkboards are so popular right now. Everywhere you go, there is a chalkboard of some sort on display or for sale. I think they are so cool! Did you know they are so easy to make at home. Easy! I mean really easy!
One of my handmade creations this year is the Christmas Chalkboard Plate that I have on display in my kitchen. I simply purchased a large charger (the fancy plate that goes under your dinner plate) at the my local craft store and painted the center with chalkboard paint. Made a pretty bow to glue to the top and TA-DA….a Christmas Chalkboard Plate was designed in no time flat.
Use it to write your favorite holiday expression or as a countdown until Christmas. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that this whole project cost about $5 bucks to make. If you don’t want to purchase a plate, you can even use an old one you have at home. You just have to make sure that you use Multi-Surface Chalkboard paint.
1 Charger Dinner Plate
Glue Gun / Glue Sticks
Begin by painting the center of the plate with chalkboard paint. I applied three coat and made sure each coat dried thoroughly before starting another coat.
Once paint is dry, make a simple bow with some pretty holiday ribbon. Glue the bow to the top of the plate.
I love tackling simple and inexpensive projects. This chalkboard Christmas plate add a nice holiday touch to my kitchen counter. Do you like to create your own Christmas crafts? What are some of the things you like to make? I would love to hear all about your ideas.
