I am sure by now, y’all know how much I love container gardening. I am jumping for joy that spring has sprung and I can get outside, enjoy some Vitamin D (with sunscreen on of course) and start working on cleaning up our yard and gardens. I love to share fun container gardening ideas with you here on The Farm Girl Gabs. So much so that I probably sound like a broken record. Well, I am going to say it again. I LOVE container gardening. While we have a huge yard, I find that planting a lot of flower pots in assorted sizes is much more manageable.
Container gardening is the perfect solution for those who don’t have a lot of time to garden, those that have very little space to garden and those that are intimidated by gardening. You see, gardening really is for everyone! It’s outdoor entertaining season. This very simple Terra Cotta Candle Planter is a great way to add some ambiance to your outdoor patio. Make just one or a few. Spread them around your outdoor areas and enjoy their beauty.
Here are the supplies you need to make your own Terra Cotta Candle Planter.
- 12″ Terra Cotta Pot
- 6″ Terra Cotta Pot
- Potting Mix
- 4 – 4″ Million Bells
- Small stones
- Tall Candle (regular or battery operated)
- Gardening Gloves
Here’s the quick video how-to…
Here’s the step by step….
Begin by filling up the 12″ pot about three-quarters of the way full with potting soil. Fill the smaller pot with stones and place in the center. It should be almost even with the rim of the larger pot. You many need to adjust the soil.
Spread the Million Bells evenly around the perimeter of the pot. Gently press down and add more soil to fill in any gaps. Give the plants a nice dose of water.
Now all you have to do is place the candle on the smaller rock-filled pot. This planter adds the perfect ambiance to any outdoor space. You can have fun with the plant and color combinations too. Another great idea is to add a citronella candle to the center to keep all the mosquitos away.
