For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you may remember I recently posted a photo with a whole lot of spray paint. Here is one of the projects I was working on…..Rockin’ Garden Stones.
Creating your own garden stones is great a kid friendly craft that ROCKS (pun intended). It’s a fun way to get the kids involved in your gardening adventures. This simple project is kid-friendly and adds a personal touch to your garden. These stone are bright and colorful and can be customized any way you like. Just let your creativity flow. Letting you son or daughter paint and draw on the stones creates great memories as well. Plus, it’s fun. These garden stones will not only be adored by friends and family as the stroll by but will be cherished for years to come.
Oh, and I forgot to mention this crafty project is super affordable to make. It cost me a whopping $4.00 to complete. I only had to purchase the paint pens. I used spray paint I had stored in our garage. The large river rock stones I used were collected from an area around our air conditioner. Now THAT is a bargain!
I spray painted each stone because it is quicker to complete. An older child with supervision should be fine with this, but as always, please use your parental discretion. For younger children, I recommend painting the stones with acrylic paints. Just make sure it is a waterproof, outdoor paint so all their talent doesn’t wash away. Either way, make sure to paint both sides of the rock.
Now this is where you child’s creativity can flow. I used paint pens to write and draw on the painted stones. You can add any word or saying you wish. Make it personal by designing one with each member’s name on it. Or, draw a silly face or an animal. The possibilities are endless, just have fun with it. To make even more kid friendly, use stencils so they can paint their design onto the rocks.
These painted rocks really do ROCK! You will have a beautiful addition to your garden landscape, your kids will be proud of their creation and all who visit will admire their special masterpiece in your garden. Do you do lots of craft projects with your kids? Try making some of these painted stones and let me know how you make out.
