The Perfect Pie Crust Recipe

The perfect pie starts with the perfect pie crust. This Perfect Pie Crust Recipe is super easy and delectably flaky.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cubed
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ice water

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, add flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk together.
  2. Add cold butter, shortening, and vinegar. Use a pastry blender to make pea-sized pieces. Slowly add the water in, 2 tablespoons at a time. Only add enough water to incorporate all the ingredients, but don't make the dough sticky.
  3. Divide dough in half. Roll each half out between two pieces of plastic wrap or on a floured surface. Place dough in a pie dish, fill and top with remaining pie crust.
  4. If making a single crust, fill pie shell then crimp edges. Pierce bottom of crust with a fork before pre-baking to prevent bubbling.
