Will The New Aladdin Movie Take Us On A Magic Carpet Ride?
Will The New Aladdin Movie Take Us On A Magic Carpet Ride? Judging by the trailer, I think so! Aladdin Live Action movie flies into theaters on May 24th.
If you follow Disney movies as I do, you know and understand that this is going to be an epic year for Walt Disney Studios at the theater. Captain Marvel, Avengers End Game, Star Wars Episode IX, Live-Action Aladdin just to name a few…oh my! Yesterday, one of the movies I am most excited about dropped its official trailer. Yes, folks, the new Aladdin live-action movie will hit theaters on May 24 and I am super stoked to head to Agrabah for a visit.
When the original animated Aladdin movie was released, I was in my young 20s and my now 30-year old nephew was obsessed with the movie. And so was I. We would watch it together over and over and over on the trusty old VHS every chance we could. So, as you can see, this movie has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Of course, my excitement could also be attributed to the fact that I am an absolute Disney freak. Anyway, the trailer was simply amazing and set the tone for what appears to be a magical movie that will take us to a whole new world (see what I did there?). You can check out my YouTube reaction video below.
The film stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders. It is directed by Guy Ritchie 0f Sherlock Holmes fame.
From the songs to the excitement to the awesome cast, this movie has all the makings of something amazing. Let’s talk about the music. A few of our cherished favorite songs will be included plus a few new ones. Eight-time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Oscar®-winning lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and includes two new songs written by Menken and lyrics by Oscar and Tony Award®-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
I feel like there was a lot of negative energy about the film when the teaser was released. But the trailer definitely set the record straight. Will Smith is going to make an awesome Genie too. Robin Williams will always be the original, but I have no doubt that Will Smith will put his own creatively funny spin on the character.
