Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the name of the new Star Wars Land opening soon at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. To give you some idea of what to expect from this land, the time period is set somewhere between Episodes VIII and IX. Makes sense.
The planet “Galaxy’s Edge” is on is called Batuu. It is officially a canonical location in the Star Wars galaxy. This particular area of Batuu is a port city known as Black Spire. Within Black Spire, there is a Marketplace, a docking bay for food and cargo, and a cantina. Of everything in Star Wars Land, one sign you are in Galaxy’s Edge is the life-size Millennium Falcon you will find docked there.
Opening Dates
So, there is a lot to unpack if you are looking for info on the new Star Wars Land. It’s not just another land, it’s a whole new story that Imagineers have crafted to create a next level guest experience that surpasses any built theme park environment to date. Galaxy’s Edge is nearly exactly the same at both parks. Everything in Star Wars Land is identical at Disneyland and at Disney World. They have the same attractions, the same shops, and the same food and restaurants. It’s what you would expect if Black Spire, or Batuu for that matter, was a real place. Disneyland will open by reservation only on May 31. Hollywood Studios opens on August 29th.
There are no reservations for the Disney World location, but there is a warning that capacity is limited.
Attractions
Among everything in Star Wars Land will be two attractions. However, only one will be running on opening day. This is the highly anticipated Millennium Falcon ride, Smugglers Run. Real-time controls and a motion simulating centrifuge combine in state of the art tech to make piloting the Millennium Falcon a reality. Rise of the Resistance will be even more epic when it finally opens. It will feature trackless technology and vehicle changes in the course of a 38-minute ride experience that includes a face off against Kylo Ren on a Star Destroyer.
Food
The food will look and sound very exotic but will taste familiar. entrees with Star Wars inspired names and plating will be made from beef, chicken, sustainable fish and of course vegetarian offerings. There is also a large drink menu featuring specialty cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. Each drink comes in a unique vessel to accentuate the otherworldly aspect.
Shops
Shops in Black Spire have back stories all their own and unique merchandise designed to reinforce the idea that this is indeed a real place. toys and games are based on the internal logic of Star Wars. Droid and Lightsaber building are chief among the souvenir shopping experience. You can also adopt a pet at the Creature Stall.
This sounds like a galactic experience. No doubt the crowds will be heavy but I can’t wait to experience it. How about you? Are you planning to visit Star Wars Land Galaxy’s Edge?
