Have you ever had a Hot Brown? This legendary sandwich was made famous at the Brown Hotel in Kentucky. And while I have never been to Kentucky, I have had a version of a Kentucky Hot Brown and I couldn’t wait to recreate the recipe to share with you.

This Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders recipe is a perfect dish to make for a quick meal or a party. I like to make sliders if we have a busy evening planned and need a quick meal.

The original Hot Brown is an open-faced sandwich of turkey and bacon, covered in Mornay sauce and baked or broiled until the bread is crisp and the sauce begins to brown. These Kentucky Hot Brown sliders are a twist on the original. And let me tell you this…they are delicious! As I said, you can serve them for game day, a girls night party, and an easy dinner recipe for your family.

The Hot Brown originated in the 1920s. The Brown Hotel drew over 1,200 guests each evening for its dinner dance. By the wee hours of the morning, guests would grow weary of dancing and make their way to the restaurant for a bite to eat.

Chef Fred Schmidt set out to create something new to tempt his guests’ palates instead of traditional ham and eggs. His unique dish? An open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and a delicate Mornay sauce. The Hot Brown was born!

So here is my delicious take on the Hot Brown.

Ingredients Needed For Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders

  • Sweet Hawaiian Rolls
  • Sliced Deli Turkey Breast
  • Sharp White Cheddar Cheese (swiss cheese is delicious too!)
  • Cooked Bacon
  • Sliced Tomatoes
  • Mornay Sauce

How To Make Turkey Sliders

Place the bottom portion of the rolls on the parchment-lined pan. Layer half of the turkey over the rolls, followed by cheddar cheese and bacon.

Finish the easy sandwich recipe off by adding another layer of turkey before topping with the buns. Brush buns with dijon butter sauce and bake sliders in the oven for 20 minutes.
