My current obsession in life is all things gnomes. They are just the cutest creatures and look so festive during the Christmas season. Last year, I shared with you how I made this adorable Buffalo Check Gnome Christmas decoration.

So this year, I had to put my creative juices in motion and create a few of these adorable fellas for my Christmas tree. This DIY Gnome Ornament craft is an easy Christmas ornament that you too can make.

Materials You Need To Make A Gnome Christmas Ornament

Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn by Lion Brand, Wheat

Felt Sheets (I used maroon, forest green and grey but you can choose any color you like)

Fabric Scissors

3 mm Twine

Solid unfinished wood ball, ¾” diameter

Wood circles, (size ¼” diameter) or Wood Buttons

Printable Gnome Hat pattern (Download Here)

Hot glue gun and clear glue sticks

Gold DecoArt Extreme Sheen

Fine tip paintbrush

How To Make A DIY Pom Pom Gnome Ornament

Gather materials and preheat the hot glue gun.

Just chilling with my gnomies. This DIY Gnome Ornament is an easy Christmas craft project. Make this gnome Christmas ornament for your tree. Gnome crafts are very popular right now. This Christmas gnome ornament is an easy holiday craft to make. KIds will love making this gnome holiday ornament too.

Take one end of the yarn and begin wrapping it loosely around the palm of your hand, approximately 50 times. Cut a 5” long strand and secure that around the wrapped yarn, removing your hand. Tie the strand into a tight knot around the wrapped yarn.

Cut the yarn loops to form pom-pom. Put pom-pom aside for the time being.

Paint the surface of the wood circles in gold paint. Put aside to dry.

Print out the gnome hat pattern (download here). Place the pattern on top of the felt sheet and cut along the solid line.

Wrap the felt into a cone-shaped gnome hat using a wooden dowel (or pencil) to help wrap the felt around leaving a small opening at the cone tip. Glue the overlapping edges of the felt cone-shaped hat to hold in place.

Cut a piece of twine 20” long and fold in half. Tie the cut ends of the twine around the pom-pom. Thread the looped end of the twine through the hole at the top of the hat. Pull on the twine loop to force the hat on top of the pom-pom.

Glue one wood ball to the bottom edge of the hat. Glue two painted wood circles onto the front of the hat as shown.

Trim any really long and uneven yarn ends, while keeping the yarn in the center front the longest to mimic the gnome beard.

Materials

  • Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn by Lion Brand in the color Wheat
