Halloween is just around the corner. Are you excited? I am. I am equally excited that it is once again hot cocoa bomb season too. And of course, because I enjoy making hot chocolate bombs for any holiday, I couldn’t let Halloween pass without sharing this easy Halloween recipe.

Fall is in the air. I love a nice warm cup of hot chocolate to warm up to on a crisp fall day. Hot cocoa bombs also make a nice gift. So make some extra to share.

What Are Hot Cocoa Bombs?

Hot Cocoa bombs or Hot Chocolate Bombs are chocolate “spheres” filled with hot cocoa mix, marshmallows and other delicious hot chocolate ingredients (think caramels, and peppermints).

For this recipe, I used milk chocolate mix but how delicious would pumpkin spice hot chocolate mix be? The bombs are drizzled with a colorful chocolate drizzle and then topped with festive Halloween sprinkles.

I love that they can be tailored to any holiday or special occasion. You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate or colorful candy melts to make the spheres. By simply changing up the type of chocolate used, you can create something colorful for whatever occasion. Warm hot chocolate is so comforting.

Tips for Making Hot Cocoa Bombs

  1. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.
  2. Put a spoonful of melted chocolate inside one cup on the silicone mold and use the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides of the mold.
  3. Allow the chocolate to set completely, around 2 to 3 hours. You can speed up the process by placing the chocolate in the refrigerator.
  4. When the chocolate is set, carefully remove each of the chocolate pieces from the mold.
  5. Try adding different flavor instant hot cocoa mix to the molds (pumpkin spice would be perfect for this time of year). You can also add additional small candy, caramels, sprinkles along with the hot choclate mix.
  6. Heat a glass plate in the microwave for 30 seconds. Press the sides of an empty chocolate semi-circle onto the hot plate to melt the chocolate, then press the melted edges onto one of the filled pieces. Hold until sealed.
  7. The chocolate should be slightly cooled before drizzling over the bombs. If it is too hot, it will melt the chocolate.
  8. Allow the chocolate decorations to set before using, around 1 hour.
  9. Store in a cool, dry place.
  10. To make the hot chocolate bombs, place the bomb in the bottom of a mug. Pour one cup of hot milk over the top of the bomb to melt the chocolate. When the chocolate is completely melted, stir to combine.

Tips For Wrapping Hot Cocoa Bombs

If you are giving these as a gift, place each bomb in a festive Halloween cupcake liners and then wrap in a piece of cellophane or a treat bag. Tie with a ribbon and you have a spooktacular Halloween gift idea!
