Christmas Gumdrop Nougat
Happy first week of December. Wow! Can you believe that Christmas is just around the corner? Between farm life and blog life, things have been pretty crazy. But it is the most wonderful time of year. So much excitement in the air, right?
So far I have finished decorating the house (minus our Christmas tree , put a significant dent in my Christmas shopping list and started to share some fun Christmas recipes and crafts here.
I am officially kicking my holiday baking off with this delicious Christmas Gumdrop Nougat recipe. Nougat, you say? Before you click away and leave me in the dust, hear me out first.
This easy candy recipe is perfect to eat and to share this holiday season.
How To Make Homemade Nougat
It’s a simple recipe. I promise. Pinky promises to be exact. It’s made with marshmallows and white chocolate so what’s not to love.
A double boiler, spatula and a baking dish are the only pieces of equipment you need too. So, if you are not “the baker extraordinaire”, have no fear because you probably have these items in your kitchen.
Kitchen Essentials To Make Gum Drop Nougat
Since I have a major sweet tooth, and a love for Dot candy, these red and green gumdrops are a festive addition. Not a fan of gumdrops? I forgive you. There are so many delicious nougat variations you can whip up.
Christmas Nougat Variations: Try substituting one or more of these in place of the gumdrops.
- Your favorite nut (or nuts). This is delicious with toasted pecans.
- Craisins or your favorite dried fruit.
- Pretzels
- Chocolate chips (wait until the nougat cools slightly before mixing them in)
- Chopped Chocolate Bars

Our office received a basket of retro-candy last week. The first thing to go was the nougat pieces with colorful jellies. I would never have thought they could be that easy to make. Thanks for sharing!
Wishes for tasty dishes,
Linda
Can this nougat recipe be frozen?
Yes. You can freeze it.
I love this candy! The first time I made it with the double boiler… and after that… i just used the microwave to melt the chocolate and marshmallows, it comes out the same for me.
Did you use the gumdrops that come in the assorted “dots” box of candy?
What do you think of using Red and green Holiday Cherries ?
I love this candy sooooo simple & delicious. I used a pizza cutter to cut it & it worked wonderfully!!!
Just made this in the double boiler. Was hard to stir at end with spatula so switched to a small wooden spoon and broke my spoon. Hope it tastes ok. Have to spread it in the pan quickly I found out.
Just tested it this morning after cutting. Used a pizza cutter as suggested and it worked great! My family will love this!
What are dot candies?
Can not find mini marshmallows anywhere, how many of the large would be needed for this recipe? Thank you.
You would need 20 ounces worth.
These are delish, easy & worth a try. Made a batch for Christmas gifts for friends/neighbors. One recipe makes a lot. Cut them in 1″ pieces & put them in mini holiday paper cups. Also used a larger pan than an 8×8 as instructed….glad I did.
Are these sticky? Do I need to wrap in cellophane wrappers? I want to mail them. Thank you for your help.
Yes, I would definitely wrap in cellophane
Just made
Used dbl boiler. Used gummy worm red & green pieces; food colors ran some when mixed in giving a funky “Tye Dye” effect. Look good.
When making just keep working it.‼️????????
I made 2 batches, the 1st took forever to melt the marshmallows & chocolate together so the 2nd batch I melted the chips over a double boiler, then microwaved the marshmallows for 2 min on high & mixed together. OMG, that was so much easier. They taste great. I’ve got them cooling down for the night right now????????????
I’d like to make these next week….any reason I cannot make that early for Christmas? Don’t want to freeze as we will be traveling.
Thank you for sharing!
I made 3 batches of this candy last year and have already gotten 2 requests for me to make it again this year!! Super easy recipe! My only problem is finding the DOTS! I had to order them online and will do it again this year!!
Yes! They are sometimes hard to find.
Dollar tree has them year round .
This was my first time making these & they came out beautifully! I only had 22 oz of the Ghirardelli white baking chips (they come in 11 oz bags), but it worked out. The texture was nice, not hard nor too soft and they weren’t too sweet. I did try the pizza cutter but ended up using a butcher knife to cut them in cubes. I’ll definitely be making these again; will do the colored ones for Easter. Thank you so much for sharing!
Made these to include in my homemade baskets of goodies to pass out to family at Christmas, and I have been getting a ton of compliments on this candy! I used 4-boxes of the $1 box of dots and just picked out the red and green. Thanks for sharing this recipe, and it will be included every year now!
anyone have an issue with sticking to the parchment paper? Was I supposed to grease the paper? It is sticking. Ideas? Thanks
can this be made with chocolate chips instead of the white.
Mine stuck until I put it in the fridge. Once it completely cooled, it was no longer stuck. It didn’t restick when I took it out to cut it.
Oh my goodness! I just made this, wanting to add something different to my Christmas treats. I think I’m addicted to these things! Not overly sweet and they are so festive! I’m going to have to give them away quickly so I don’t eat them all!
Made this today and they are really easy. I used cinnamon Santa’s instead of dots and they are delish. Wondering if anyone had tried using just marshmallow creme instead?
Can these be made with white chocolate bar?
Yes, you can make them with a chocolate bar.
I make sure that there are a couple of candies which are homemade during Christmas. This time it was Gumdrop nougats but they did not last long as my kids finished them all.
How long will it keep?
Just made these not to long ago I found that melting the marshmallows and white chocolate was taking too long so I switched to the microwave and it did the trick in less than 3 minutes and the outcome came out great.
