Cool down this summer with a refreshing Dr Pepper Avalanche. This delicious Dr Pepper ice cream treat is part sundae and part milkshake. #DPSFlavorTour
Life is all about self-expression. From the clothes we wear, to the music we listen to, to the label we choose when drinking a 20-ounce Dr Pepper. Yes, our individuality even comes down to allowing ourselves to choose whichever limited edition, custom printed Dr Pepper label speaks to us. Life and what you make of it truly is a matter of self-expression. The Dr Pepper Pick Your Pepper campaign puts the spotlight on individuality. After all, there is no one more unique than ourselves.
Having been a Dr Pepper fan since I was a young child, I was excited when I was invited to partner with them on this campaign. That catchy Dr Pepper commercial jingle “I’m A Pepper”, which I remember vividly from my youth, is highlighted on this cool t-shirt I received.
If you head on over to the Dr Pepper website, you can explore the Hall of Labels and make your own #pickyourpepper GIF at www.drpepper/pickyourpepper.com. I just love the theory of creativity! Whether it’s putting a dinosaur in space or a monster truck on cheetah print, the Pick Your Pepper experience gives you customization through exploration empowering you to use the label artwork to create and share 4,000 possible GIF combinations! Here is the GIF I created. Of course, it is a fairy tale theme. You all know how much I love princesses and fairy tales.
Now that summer is here and school is finally out, the kids and I are celebrating with this Dr Pepper Avalanche. This ice cream treat is my version of those really thick milkshakes with all the fun mix-in ingredients that you can buy at your local ice cream shop. Avalanches are so simple to make at home. It’s fun to get the kids involved too.
I used pieces of pound cake and chopped maraschino cherries for my Dr Pepper Avalanche. They fun thing about these ice cream desserts is the flavor combinations are endless. I happen to have a love affair for maraschino cherries and pound cake.
I am a traditionalist when it comes to ice cream. I love vanilla. After adding a few heaping scoops of vanilla to the blender, I added about 3/4 cup of Dr Pepper, a few tablespoons of maraschino cherry juice and a splash of milk. Blend until incorporated. You want the avalanche to be really thick…like a spoon can stand up straight thick.
Before pouring into a glass, mix in the pound cake and the chopped cherries. I like to reserve some to add to the top too. That way, when you get ready to dig into this delicious treat, you get an extra bite of cake and cherries. I’d like to say that you can enjoy this with a straw, but you can’t. You need a spoon to savor every last mix-in. The Dr Pepper add such a great flavor to this too.
