Black Spire Outpost

The setting of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. It is an as yet unseen location in the Star Wars movies but may make an appearance in Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. This outpost is where the Millennium Falcon ended up after escaping the battle of Crait.

The area is set up like a giant playset which is fitting considering Toy Story Land connects to it, and Batuu is visible from Slinky Dog Dash. However, once you are inside, it is a fully immersive experience that transports you to another galaxy. Imagine the Resistance camp on one side of the land and the First Order on the other side. Both are fighting for control of the outpost, which features unique shopping and dining, as well as one of a kind experiences such as droid building and lightsaber customization. The big draws of the land are Oga’s Cantina, The Millennium Falcon and Savi’s Workshop.

Limited Capacity

Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios is nearly identical to the one at Disneyland. The space takes up about 14 acres. However, to have the intended experience, the land must not become too crowded. Disneyland tried several measures to protect their version of Batuu from becoming overcrowded. They turned out not to be necessary, but Hollywood Studios may see more problems with crowding since they have not issued any blackout dates or created a reservation-only system.

Two draws to Galaxy’s Edge are particularly limited. Savi and Son Salvage is a front for the workshop where Gatherers guide you in building your lightsaber. Oga’s Cantina is a low capacity bar. Both experiences required a virtual queue at Disneyland and may be challenging to get into when Galaxy’s Edge opens at the end of the month.

Drinks

Oga’s Cantina is the local watering hole in Black Spire. It’s inspired by the Mos Eisley Cantina in A New Hope. The bar has minimal seating and a two-drink maximum to keep guests circulating. Premixed cocktails and mocktails are drawn from a tap as are the wine, cider and beer options. In the Disneyland version of Galaxy’s Edge, this is the only place where alcohol is served. In Walt Disney World, all Galaxy’s Edge Locations will serve alcohol. Even the Blue and Green Milk come in alcoholic or nonalcoholic varieties.

Extra Extra Magic

From September 1-November 2 Hollywood Studios will offer resort guests Extra Extra Magic Hours. This daily opportunity creates access to the park from 6-9 am before the park officially opens to the public.

Rise of the Resistance

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is the only attraction Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will open with. However, it will have two ride experiences. Not only do the cockpit controls affect the motion simulator in real-time, but there are also versions of the attraction for daylight and nighttime in Black Spire. The most significant attraction Rise of the Resistance will not open in Hollywood Studios until December 5. For visitors to Disneyland, it will be another month of waiting before the Rise of the Resistance opens up there on January 17.
