It’s no secret that I love to make Halloween treats. While I am not into the scare factor of the season, I am definitely into the cute factor. Frankenstein Cupcakes In A Jar For Halloween are a fun and spooky Halloween treat that kids will love. This easy Halloween cupcake recipe is perfect for serving at a Halloween party!

Lime green vanilla cupcakes, purple frosting, and Rice Krispies treats decorated to look like Frankenstein have all the makings of a fun Halloween recipe for kids. Oh, and did I mention that these are super easy to make too? It’s a great Halloween special treat that your kids can help with.

Supplies Needed To Make These Super Cute Frankenstein Cupcakes In A Jar

Cupcake tins 
Cupcake paper liners 
Large Mixing Bowl 
Popsicle Sticks 
8 oz Mason jars 
Small Candy Eyeballs 
2 piping bags or large ziplock bag
Piping star tip

Ingredients Needed To Make Halloween Cupcakes In A Jar

White or vanilla cake mix plus ingredients to make cupcakes
Vanilla extract 
Neon green gel food color 
Vanilla buttercream 
Halloween Sprinkles

For The Homemade Frosting 

Butter 
Powdered sugar 
Vanilla 
Electric purple or violet food color 

How To Make Frankenstein Cupcakes In A Jar For Halloween

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Make cupcakes to package instructions. I like to add vanilla to the cupcake batter for some extra flavor. Add two drops of green gel food coloring. I used neon green but any green will work.

Step 2: Separate batter evenly into each cupcake pan. Bake for 15-18 minutes, remove from oven and allow to cool on a wire rack.

Step 3: To make the frosting, beat the room temperature butter on medium speed in a stand mixer or with a handheld until fluffy. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar Add the vanilla and milk and beat until incorporated, about 2 minutes.

Step 4: Tint the buttercream icing with two drops of electric purple. You can also use violet gel food coloring if you don’t have electric purple. Beat for 5 mins on high to make it super silky. Add buttercream to a piping bag (or a large Ziplock bag) fitted with a piping tip.

How To Make The Frankenstein Rice Krispies Treats

Ingredients Needed To Decorate The Crispy Rice Treats

Rice Krispies Treats (you can either take a shortcut and purchase from the grocery store, or make your own using this recipe.

Green candy melts 
Black candy melts 
Coconut or vegetable oil 
Small Candy Eyeballs 
Popsicle Sticks

Step 1: To Make The Frankenpops Rice Krispies Treats, melt the green candy melts and add in 1-2 tsp of coconut or vegetable oil. Melt at 30-second increments at a time until melted, do not overheat it, as it will burn.  Mix it well, adding 1 tsp of oil at a time to make it smooth. 

Step 2: Once melted, dip the rice Krispy treat face down into the chocolate. Add candy eyeballs immediately. Set them to side and repeat the melting process with black candy melts.

Step 3: Add the melted black candy to a piping bag or Ziplock bag and snip a small hole in the tip making small up and down movements while squeezing the black candy, create the hair. Once the hair is created, give the face eyebrows, a mouth, and a little zigzag scar at the bottom right corner. 

Step 4: Allow to set for 10 minutes or until completely dry.  Add the popsicle sticks to the bottom then set them aside. 

How to Assemble Cupcakes In A Jar

Step 1: Now it’s time to grab the glass jars. Remove the cupcakes from their liners and slice them in half crosswise. Place one half in the jar upside down.

Step 2: Squeeze a circle of frosting around the top, applying even pressure the entire time. Add the other half of the cupcake on top and repeat with frosting. 

Slice another cupcake in half and add a third layer to the jar, top with frosting and sprinkles.

Frankenstein Cupcakes In A Jar For Halloween

Ingredients

  • Cupcakes

    Notes

    If working with kids add the popsicle sticks to the rice krispy treats before decorating, but make sure your bowl is large enough to dip the rice krispy treat.
