What do I need to make this Sweet Potato Hummus?
This hummus uses all the traditional flavors of a simple Middle Eastern hummus with the addition of a baked sweet potato. Many of these items you may already have on your pantry shelf. If not, you can easily find them at your grocery store. This recipe can be made a day or two ahead of time as well.
- Sweet Potato or Orange Yam
- Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans)
- 1 Lemon
- Garlic
- Cumin
- Cayenne (optional)
- Salt & Pepper
- Almond Butter
- Olive Oil
Sweet Potato Hummus Recipe Tips and Instructions
Step 1
Roast the sweet potato at 400 degrees for one hour. Allow to cool slightly and remove skin.
Step 2
Add all ingredients to a food processor, except the olive oil. Give the processor a few pulses to combine everything.
Step 3
Slowly add the olive oil and continue to blend until desired consistency.
I like to serve this recipe with fresh vegetables, pita chips or crackers. You can top with some pine nuts for extra crunch too.

Sweet Potato Hummus
Ingredients
- 1 sweet potato, roasted whole and skin removed
- 2 15 oz cans chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained
- 2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 lemon, juiced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 2 tbsp almond butter
- 1 cup olive oil
Instructions
- Puree cooked sweet potato, skin removed, with all ingredients except olive oil in a blender.
- • Slowly add olive oil and continue to blend until desired consistency.
- • Serve with cut-up vegetables, crackers, or chips.
- • Store covered in the refrigerator.
