Did you know that July is National Blueberry month? Yep, it is. So let’s celebrate the BLUETIFUL berries. Blueberry season has been in full swing for about two weeks here on our farm. We grow twenty acres of these beauties.
If you are a blueberry fan, I am sure you get as excited as I do when the season rolls around. Depending on the weather, they usually last for about a month so it’s a much longer season than strawberries. Of course, I am kicking off National Blueberry Month with this easy Blueberry Crisp recipe.
To kick off National Blueberry Month, Douglas Fisher, New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture (far right) and some of our local county representatives, visited our farm market. Hubby Anthony shared a little about our growing process and the Secretary talked about the importance of the Blueberry growers to New Jersey Agriculture. We even got a family photo taken (minus a few family members) ; )

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make Blueberry Fruit Crisp?
Fresh Blueberries : You can make this recipe with frozen blueberries but farm fresh is best in my opinion. HOWEVER, I love to freeze our blueberries so we can enjoy this recipe during the winter months.

Lemon Juice – This brightens the flavor

Ingredients for The Crisp Topping
Quick Cooking Oats
Flour
Light brown sugar
Cinnamon
Pinch of Salt
Cold butter
How Do I Make A Quick & Easy Fruit Crisp? Blueberry Crisp Recipe Tips:
Fruit crisp is probably one of the easiest dessert recipes you can make. Seriously! It’s not very hard to add some fresh fruit, in this case blueberries, to a baking dish and add a crisp oatmeal topping. Trust me friends.
This blueberry crisp recipe is so EASY! I think even a toddler could make it. Ok, maybe that is going too far, but I know a toddler can definitely help.
Tip 1: Since we are in the midst of blueberry season, make sure you grab a few pints of delicious blueberries at your local farm market or grocery store. BUT…..this recipe can definitely be made all year long by using frozen blueberries.
Tip 2: If your blueberries are on the sweeter side, you can always cut back on the sugar. Adjust the sweetness level by adding more or less sugar depending on your sweet preference.
Tip 3: Serve with your favorite ice cream. I am partial to vanilla. But hey, I would never judge!
How To Make Blueberry Crisp With Frozen Blueberries
Have some frozen blueberries stored in your freezer? You can easily substitute the frozen blueberries for the fresh in equal amounts.
Can I freeze Blueberry Crisp?
Yes, you can freeze a fruit crisp. I recommend preparing the blueberry crisp and freezing before baking. This way the topping will not get overly brown when reheated.

Easy Blueberry Crisp

Ingredients
- 6 cups fresh blueberries
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- Pinch of Salt
- Crisp Topping
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter
- Ice Cream, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Toss blueberries, cornstarch, sugar and a pinch of salt together in a bowl.
- Combine flour, oats, brown and white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and pecans in a bowl. Add butter and pinch into chunks. Mix until it looks crumbly.
- Add the blueberries into a 2-quart baking dish. Top evenly with the crumb mixture. Bake for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream.
