I’ve come to the conclusion that I love cupcakes. I judge my finding solely on the fact that I share a lot of easy cupcake recipes here. I hope you don’t mind. Do you love the classic malt flavor? You know, the Whoppers candy you used to get in your Halloween Trick or Treat bag that often would be forgotten or not eaten. Easter now has their own version conveniently called Malt Eggs. So when in Rome……I added malt eggs to the icing and used some for decoration on this cute malted milkball cupcake recipe.

The signs of Easter mean that springtime is here (or at least just around the corner) and life of the farm is once again hectic. Soon, the spring planting will start, our farm market will be open and the wonderful smell of spring will be in air.

Ingredients Needed To Make Easter Egg Malt Cupcakes

Vanilla cupcakes (this is my favorite “from scratch recipe” or you can make a doctored up cake mix version (see recipe below)

Sweet cream butter, softened

Powdered sugar

Pure Vanilla Extract

Heavy whipping cream

Large piping bag with wide star tip 

1 – 8oz bag of Easter Whopper eggs, divided 

1 package of Wilton Easter bunny icing transfer 

How To Decorate Easter Egg Malt Cupcakes

Using a ziplock bag, crush up half of the Whopper Easter eggs. Set aside

Using a stand mixer, combine the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy whipping cream and mix on medium speed until stiff peaks form. Whip about 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.

Scoop half of the vanilla frosting into a piping bag. Beat in the crushed Whopper eggs into the remaining icing. Scoop into the second piping bag.

Easter Egg Malt Cupcakes

Using the plain vanilla piping bag, pipe a ring of frosting around the top of the cupcake. Using the whopper frosting piping bag, pipe a dollop of frosting on top of the vanilla frosting 

Finish off by placing a few Easter Whopper Eggs (also called Robin’s Eggs) on top and place the bunny icing transfer next to the eggs.

To Prepare Box Cake Mix:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
  2. Using a large bowl, beat until combined the cake mix, eggs, milk and butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Fill the cupcake liners ¾ full.
  4. Bake in the oven for 20-24 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden brown.
  5. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on the counter before frosting.
