Comfort food season is on the horizon. Are you ready? No, I am not trying to rush the season, but I just love comfort food. It is also football season and that makes me super happy too. So, I think a delicious recipe is in order. So what do you get when comfort food and game day grub collide? How about a nice one-pot Homemade Easy Classic Chili. 

Try This Fall Chili Recipe

Do you want to know my favorite thing about winter? Sitting next to a crackling fire wrapped in a blanket is how I like to celebrate winter. While some are eager to run outside and play in the snow or take a walk in the crisp winter air, I choose the warm road.

Yep, my favorite way to enjoy winter is from the inside looking out. I have come to the conclusion that I am a winter wimp, and I am perfectly fine with that.

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make Chili?

Here is what you need to make this classic one-pot chili recipe. So good and so delicious! This chili recipe only takes one hour from start to finish. You can cook longer if you have time to further develop the flavor. 

  • Lean Ground Beef
  • Ground Sausage
  • Crushed Tomatoes
  • Green Peppers
  • Jalapeno Peppers
  • Diced Onion
  • Kidney Beans
  • Seasonings: Cumin, Oregano, Chopped Garlic, Cocoa Powder, Salt & Pepper
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese – for garnish
  • Sour Cream – for garnish

How Do I Make Classic Chili?

Winter is all about comfort foods and I was really craving a nice bowl of this Easy Classic Chili the other day. It also a football classic! With football playoff weekend here, this recipe is a winner. The big game (you know the one that starts with an S) is just around the corner and this is the ultimate game-day recipe.

This Easy Classic Chili will be on my game day menu no matter who is playing. After all, I am in it for the food as much as the game itself.

This is the same recipe that I grew up with. I have tweaked it just a little since I started making it myself by adding ground sausage and some peppers to the recipe. Either way, this Easy Classic Chili is hearty and delicious!

You can also turn this classic chili recipe into a slow-cooker chili recipe. After your sautee the beef and sausage, add all the ingredients to a slow cooker to combine. Cook 6-8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. Voila! – an easy Crock PotChili recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground sausage
  • 2 large cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 1-2 jalapeno peppers finely diced (adjust amount according to heat preference)
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 - 16 ounce cans of kidney beans
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese - for garnish
  • 3 tablespoons Canola Oil
  • Sour Cream - for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat canola oil in a large dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Saute ground beef and sausage until cooked through. Add onions, peppers, garlic and sautee for 5 more minutes over medium heat.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, seasonings and kidney beans. Stir to incorporate. Simmer on low for one hour.
  4. Garnish with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream.
