This year’s apple season on our farm is halfway over, but there is still plenty of time to enjoy these fall beauties. Luckily for us, they are readily available all year long. As you already know, apples aren’t just for lunch boxes.
Homemade Caramel Apples are one of the ultimate fall treats that you can seriously enjoy any time of the year. I know that for a fact because I eat them in Walt Disney World all the time. These yummy snacks are so easy to make at home. And you can keep them simple by just dipping in caramel, or you can jazz up your Candy Apples by adding all kinds of goodies to them, like nuts, chocolate chips, candy, dried fruit…..and the list goes on and on.
Caramel apples are fun to make with the kids too. This recipe uses those packaged caramels you can easily find during the fall months. The kids will love creating their own delicious caramel apple by dipping the apples into their favorite toppings. These gems make a great party treat too. You can easily whip up a batch for a party.
This apple recipe is perfect for those apples you just picked from your local orchard. Orchard fresh apples work best for these candy apples since there is no wax on the outer layers. If you do use apple you purchased at the grocery store, make sure you gently scrub the wax off the outer layer of the apple.
As far as the sweetness level of the apple, that’s totally up to you. Some (slowly raises hand) prefer a sweeter apple to dip, others prefer a more tart apple to dip to balance out the sweet ingredients. Either way, choose the crispest apples you can find at your farmer’s market or grocery store.
